During the majority of their professional careers, JnE were much more likely to be found working behind a desk than a router or a table saw. But when not working or traveling, there was always a DIY project in the works.
As soon as they bought their first home – a town home in Southern California – they were never content without remodeling something. They started small, with a hardwood floor installation. Then they moved on to hand-building a glass block wall and matching breakfast bar. Building the furniture came next – a rustic dining table and a couch were the first items of furniture Jim designed and built, and a lifelong passion was born.
By the time they bought their current home in the mountains of New Mexico, just a hardwood floor wasn’t nearly enough. Jim and Ellen took the home down to studs, then built it all back up; moving walls and rooms around, installing large picture windows in a howling wind (not recommended) and adding a big garage and workshop for the DIY and professional projects yet to come.
After completely rebuilding every inch of the house by hand, they painted their walls with bold New Mexican colors and started planning the furnishings. Jim & Ellen found themselves drawn again and again to more rustic furniture designs, and started playing with various techniques for distressing wood and designing pieces for their newly renovated home.
They enjoyed the process and loved the rustic furniture so much that they didn’t want to stop. Their friends and neighbors agreed they should not stop, and encouraged them to “go pro”. And jneStuff was born. They are excited to share their beautiful distressed tables with kindred spirits who are also inspired by rustic painted wood furniture.
Building distressed painted wood tables and plant stands is not our only passion. We love working as a team, and have done just that since the early 1990s. We hope you enjoy our rustic furniture!
